Connecting the dots:
Henry Louis Gates arrested for breaking in his own home.
Comic veteran Dwayne McDuffie pitching a DC comic featuring black characters.
Ta-Nehisi riffing on the “I’m not a racist but…” canard.
Now all stories are worth reading on their own. Ta-Nehisi is one of the best in the business, it’s good to see McDuffie getting work…and the Gates story is funny in a way.
But what really fascinates me are the comments. P6 actually hipped me to this.
I've always been more into comments than posts.
The comments on Gates' arrest were notable to me for the number of folks who wanted to wait for the whole story when the arrest report was linked in the story they were commenting on.
Wow, Lester, I never read comments before this.
People don't like to state their opinions on certain things when you're speaking to them in person. But those people commenting on those articles are really saying what they think and their statements are tripping me out!
The only post-racial America is within the living quarters of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
If anything, Obama has done little to address or acknowledge the real socio-economic and structural sources of racism that continue to manifest themselves in our society. Yes, de jure racism has declined significantly; but much work has yet to be done to make racial equality more evidence in our society.
I just listened to an NPR segement specfically about the comments sparked by news on Professor gates
