A couple of weeks ago we held the finals of The Baltimore Mixtape Project. It was the kickoff event of Mobilizing and Organizing from Below. The event was far better than I could've possibly imagined, particularly given its shoestring nature. Most importantly it brought together the two of the three constituencies best situated to transform Baltimore–young white leftists, and even younger black leftists. For reasons I'll explain later, these two populations have a long history of fitful starts and stops, going back as far as the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

A couple of days after the event we held a workshop at the conference. It was our first public attempt to figure out what happens next, and it ended up being an excellent opportunity to talk about the process.
